Photos are one of the most underestimated performance drivers in Google Business Profile. Businesses with photos on their GBP receive significantly more clicks for directions and more website visits than those without. In the visual-first Saudi market β where Instagram and visual content dominate β the quality of your GBP photos can directly influence whether a potential customer contacts you or moves on to a competitor.
How Photos Affect GBP Rankings and Engagement
Google's own data shows that businesses with photos receive considerably more direction requests and website clicks than businesses without. While photos aren't a direct ranking factor in the same way reviews are, they influence behavioral signals β click-through rates, time spent on your profile, and action rates β which do feed into how Google evaluates your listing's relevance and prominence.
Types of Photos to Upload
Logo
Your logo appears as a small icon next to your business name in various Google interfaces. Use a high-resolution version of your official logo against a white or transparent background.
Cover Photo
The cover photo is the main image that appears at the top of your GBP listing. This is your most valuable visual real estate. Use a high-quality image that immediately communicates what your business is β your storefront, your team, your main product, or your best service in action.
Exterior Photos
Photos of the outside of your business help customers recognize your location when they arrive. Include photos from different angles and times of day if relevant.
Interior Photos
Show customers what to expect inside. For restaurants, this means the dining area. For clinics, the waiting room and treatment areas. For offices, the reception and working space. Interior photos build comfort and reduce uncertainty before a first visit.
Product and Service Photos
Show what you actually offer. Food photos for restaurants, treatment photos for clinics, completed work photos for contractors, product photos for retail. Real, authentic photos consistently outperform generic stock images.
Team Photos
People buy from people. Photos of your team β in action, not just posed formally β build a human connection with potential customers before they've met you.
Photo Quality Standards
Use high-resolution images (at least 720 x 720 pixels). Good lighting is essential β avoid dark, blurry, or heavily filtered photos. Natural light or professional studio lighting both work well. For food or product photography, see our guide on Basics of Product Photography for Beginners.
How Often to Add Photos
Add new photos at minimum once a month. Regular uploads signal to Google that your listing is actively managed β and they give customers reasons to return to your profile to see what's new.
